Andrew's time at Chichaqua Bottoms

Every summer Greg takes the kids on a campout.  Just him and one of the kids.  This seems to be the highlight of the summer for each of the kids.  They get to decide where they want to go and what they want to do, within reason.  Well this year Andrew wanted to go to the Science Center in Des Moines.  The first park they tried was full, but Greg had a back up plan and they went to Chichaqua Bottoms.  One of the first things Andrew noticed was the canoes and he wanted to go canoeing.  Greg checked it out and decided they would give it a try.  Andrew has never been in a canoe or water that wasn't clear.  He did really well though and really enjoyed it.  The area for canoeing is Old Skunk River Oxbows so the water was relatively shallow, no more than 3 feet deep and very calm.  This made for a great ride.  Andrew was so excited because they had a paddle just the right size for him so he could help the canoe go.

The next day they went to the Science Center.  Most of the center was closed off for a special exhibit that you had to pay extra for so they didn't spend much time there.  There was enough open for Andrew to play and have fun.  Then they went to Conrad to the park to enjoy the rest of their day.
